The Boardwalk is being cleaned and there were no homeless camps or tents seen this morning, if that is due to the rain or the event – we are not sure, but it would be nice if this was how it looked every day.

The latest this afternoon around 4:00pm is that we are having pea-soup like fog out by the coast, hope Tommy can find his way to Tommyland! Sorry about the weather – but yes we have gotten the badly needed rain and now the sun can come back out!

Big waves – Venice breakers B&W Photos

After the big storm passed through yesterday there were some pretty sizable breakers in the Pacific off Venice beach this morning. The breakers looked to be in the area of 8 – 12 foot high, there was only one surfer spotted in the water since the force contained in surf of this magnitude requires some extensive surfing experience to handle.

Venice breakers after the big storm passed through – more to come.

The high surf is expected to last for the next few days and another storm with more rain is expected tonight. A flash flood warning is in effect for all of Southern California  for tomorrow Sunday January 22 2017.

On January 4th 2017 “day of the doors” was declared in Venice CA. The date coincides with the release of the doors first Album titled “the doors”, it was released on January 4th 1967 and recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood. The doors original members were John Densmore, Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison. The connection between Venice CA and the doors is strong. The band was formed when Ray Manzarek met with Jim Morrison on Venice Beach in 1965 and the band members lived and worked in and around Venice for some time. Today only two members are still alive, Jim Morrison died in 1971 in Paris and is buried there and Ray Manzarek died in 2013.

Jim Morrison lived in this building in 1965, it has since been changed as far as looks go, the structural elements are original, but the sign, color etc. has changed. The current owner is advertising the fact that Jim Morrison lived in the building by naming it "the Morrison apartments".
