Venice proclaims day of the doors

On January 4th 2017 “day of the doors” was declared in Venice CA. The date coincides with the release of the doors first Album titled “the doors”, it was released on January 4th 1967 and recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood. The doors original members were John Densmore, Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison. The connection between Venice CA and the doors is strong. The band was formed when Ray Manzarek met with Jim Morrison on Venice Beach in 1965 and the band members lived and worked in and around Venice for some time. Today only two members are still alive, Jim Morrison died in 1971 in Paris and is buried there and Ray Manzarek died in 2013.

Jim Morrison lived in this building in 1965, it has since been changed as far as looks go, the structural elements are original, but the sign, color etc. has changed. The current owner is advertising the fact that Jim Morrison lived in the building by naming it "the Morrison apartments".
