bohdigreen may very well be the best vegetarian/vegan restaurant in the world, the dishes are extremely innovative and I have never tasted anything like it anywhere else. The food is truly outstanding and I would highly recommend visiting if you are anywhere within the area, it is worth traveling for if you want a culinary experience like no other, and it is all made from whole foods. The dishes below were all had during lunch which currently ends at 16:00 and then the restaurant reopens for dinner at 20:00, but check for current hours on the website! Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is vibrant even during lunch.

Museum food – Madrid Spain

In a quest to find the best museum food (Vegetarian/Vegan) we have arrived in Madrid Spain to the Museo Nacional de Reigna Sofia. This museum is the centre for modern 20:th century art in Madrid. The restaurant is called Arzábal and is at the bottom floor with a nice outdoor courtyard area as well as indoor dining areas.

The courtyard is very nice, like a small oasis in the big city. We had lunch and the service was very good and the food up to a good standard.

Risotto for lunch at Arzábal
Risotto for lunch at Arzábal

We had the Risotto for lunch and an Estrella beer to drink, this came to a total of €21.50 which is a fairly reasonable price for a museum lunch. We can recommend this restaurant. However, we find it hard to understand the lack of creativity chefs at most museum restaurants show when it comes to Vegan/Vegetarian food. Risotto seems to qualify as the Vegan/Vegetarian dish of choice at museums aroubd the world – what are they afraid of, this is the future? There is only really only one exception that comes to mind and that is “the modern” at moma in New York city.

Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía – a.k.a. “The Sofia” in Madrid Spain is a combination of old and new buildings. It was based on an old hospital building that6 was rebuilt and a new part was added. The museum was inaugurated in 1992 and it was named after the Spanish Queen Sofia. The museum focuses mainly on Spanish art (it is the national Spanish museum for 20:th century art). The two Spanish masters of the 20:th century Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali are well represented and one of the big draws is Picasso’s “Guernica”. At the time of our visit in August 2017 there was a temporary exhibit of “Pity & terror – Picasso’s path to Guernica”, which apart from Guernica itself had many other paintings that illustrated how Picasso got to painting Guernica.

Do not be fooled by the label ‘focus on Spanish art’ because there is also a treasure of art from all around the world, the collection is extensive.

If you plan on visiting more than one museum of the Museo Nacional’s in Spain an annual card might make sense, it can be bought at the ticket office and the cost in August 2017 is €36.06 and that give you entry to a list of museums across Spain for a year, follow this link to see the list.
